UFC D.C Main Card Preview

The UFC travels to Washington DC this weekend to the Capital One Arena for UFC on ESPN 7. The main card will be headlined by two heavyweight juggernauts in Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Two Bantamweight Contender Fights

To start the main card, Rob Font will be taking on Ricky Simon. Simon was looked at as a title challenger before he lost his most recent fight to Urijah Faber in July. Starting his UFC career 3-0, Simon will be looking to get back on the winning path. He will be fighting knock out artist Rob Font. Font has fought some of the best in the division and hopes to add another win to his resume.

In the other bantamweight contender fight, China’s own Song Yadong will be taking on Cody Stamann. After Weili Zhang , Yadong is looked at to be the next big thing coming out of Chinese MMA. While Stamann is also a promising prospect, only have one UFC loss to Aljamain Sterling.

Women’s Bantamweight Fight With Title Implications

Aspen Ladd is currently ranked at number five in the division. While her opponent, Yana Kunitskaya sits at number seven. Ladd was undefeated at 8-0 before her last loss to Germaine De Randamie back in July. That fight resulted in GDR getting a title shot with Amanda Nunez for early 2020. Kunitskaya on the other hand is 2-1 in the UFC with her only loss being for the title to Cris Cyborg. After that she went on a two fight win streak taking down Lina Länsberg and Marion Reneau.

The Main Event

Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Alistair Overeem will be an all time kickboxing clinic. Rozenstruik has a kickboxing record of 76-8-1. While Overeem holds a kickboxing record of 10-4 beating guys like Badr Hari, Tyrone Spong, and Gokhan Saki. Although Rozenstruik has more experience in kickboxing, Overeem has a 45-17 record in MMA. While Rozenstruik is just beginning his MMA career with a record of 9-0.

How To Watch

The early prelims will be shown on ESPN+. While the prelims and the main card will be shown on ESPN. This fight will take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC. Below is a link to the BBQ Pit’s main card preview.
