UFC 244: The Storyline

UFC 244 is jam packed with amazing fights from top to bottom. Bringing us a brand new title, fighters moving to new weight classes, and even some weight cutting issues. Today Pure Evil MMA jumps into the storyline that makes up the card.

The BMF Title

On August 17th of this year, Nate Diaz made his return to the octagon after a three year layoff. He returned to defeat Anthony Pettis in a five round war. In his post fight interview he claimed that the fight was for the official “bad mother fucker title.” Diaz called out Jorge Masvidal to be the first challenger to his title. A few weeks after the fight, Dana White announced that Diaz and Masvidal would headline UFC 244 for the BMF title. Dana also announced that the UFC is actually creating a title belt for this occasion.

Darren Till Visa Issues

It was announced earlier this week that Darren Till was having issues with his visa. The UFC said they would have Jared Cannonier make weight as a back up plan. Till fixed his visa issue and flew to New York from Liverpool on Thursday, just one day before weigh ins.

All But One Make Weight For UFC 244

Even with all the drama everyone has weighed in and made weight with the exception of Jennifer Maia. It was a close call for Kelvin Gastelum. As he needed to break out the towel to make weight. He was also called out by some media members for what looked like leaning on his coach while trying to make weight. That all being said UFC 244 is a go, and will continue as planned.
