Last week the UFC announced their long awaited return to Newark, NJ. The last time the UFC went to Newark was January 30th, 2016. Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader fought in the main event. Ben Rothwell also secured a submission win over Josh Barnett in the co-main.

The Main Event

It’s being reported that the main event for this upcoming Newark card will be Robbie Lawler vs. Colby Covington. Colby was supposed to be next to fight Usman for the belt. With injuries sidelining Usman, it appears that Covington and Lawler will fight for a number one contender spot. Lawler is coming off a controversial loss to Ben Askren, and was supposed to fight Tyron Woodley this weekend in Minnesota, but that fight was scrapped due to Woodley getting injured.

Newark Gets Some Depth

Within the last two days several fights have been announced to accompany Lawler and Covington in Newark.

Jim Miller vs. Clay Guida

Cláudio Silva vs. Ramazan Emeev

Nasrat Naqparast vs. Joaquim Silva

Scott Holtzman vs. Dong Hyun Ma

Lauren Murphy vs. Mara Romero Borella

Lucie Pudilova vs. Antonina Shevchenko

Darko Stosic vs. Kennedy Nzechukwu

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Trevin Giles

Volkan Oezdemir vs. Ilir Latifi

UFC on ESPN 5 will take place on August 3rd in Newark, NJ at the Prudential Center. Tickets have yet to go on sale, but with the recent fight announcements, expect the UFC to start ticket sales very soon.
