Bellator Returns to MSG, Sonnen Will Fight Machida
On June 14th the Bellator cage will make its return to Madison Square Garden. It has also been announced that Lyoto Machida will fight Chael Sonnen on that card. They will be apart of Bellator’s second appearance at the Garden.
The last time we seen Chael Sonnen, Fedor knocked him out of the heavyweight Grand Prix, literally. He is a steady 2-2 in his Bellator tenure. Defeating the likes of Rampage Jackson and Wanderlei Silva. Sonnen celebrated his 41st birthday yesterday. He will likely be calling it a quits soon, and as we all know everyone likes to go out on a win. Sonnen has a strong wrestling base. He likes to take you down and grind you out. His opponent is quiet literally the opposite.
Lyoto is on a 3 fight win streak. After he won his Bellator debut by split decision against Rafael Carvalho back in December. Machida comes from a karate background. He likes to keep is opponent at kicking range. He has shown in the past that he struggles sometimes with wrestlers. He went 0-3 from 2015 to 2017 fighting wrestlers and ground fighters. He lost to Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romaro, and Derek Brunson.
Bellator has yet to announce the rest of the card. They have also yet to announce how to watch this card. Having deals with DAZN and Paramount network, it’s up in the air these days.
