Donald Cerrone Draws Al Iaquinta For UFC Ottawa

The UFC is looking to put together a lightweight contender match, between Donald Cerrone and Al Iaquinta. The targeted date will be May 4th in Ottawa Canada. UFC Ottawa can be seen exclusively on ESPN+ for the main card. The prelims will be shown live on ESPN.

Surprisingly enough this fight is looking to be booked for the main event. It is known the reason that Cerrone did not get the fight with McGregor, is because Conor only wanted to be a main event. Although it’s not a PPV, it’s still a main event that Cerrone will fight in.

Iaquinta will be coming off his decision win in December over Kevin Lee. While Cerrone is coming off a knock out win over Alexander Hernandez back in January of this year. Cerrone will be coming into this event on a two fight winning streak.

The exchanges between power striker and volume striker will make for tough times on the feet. It will be interesting to see if Cerrone plans to attempt to take this fight to the ground. We have see just how good Iaquinta’s take down defense is, in the Khabib fight.

May is only one month before June, witch is the timeframe that McGregor said he would like to return to action. Neither man would get the fight with Conor so it is a good idea for them to fight close to when his return will be. This way their victory will still be fresh in the mind.

Although the fight has not been finalized, it has been reported that the deal is all but done.
