5 Fights we need to see after UFC Wichita

The main event for UFC Wichita was former heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos against Derrick Lewis. Dos Santos hurt Lewis a few times in the fight. Lewis never stopped swinging though. A turning kick to the body immobilized Lewis temporarily. After a furry of back and forth exchanges Dos Santos was able to land a right hand and put the black beast away.

Junior Dos Santos

JDS is on a 3 fight win streak since losing his belt to Stipe back in 2017. Francis Ngannou is coming of two high profile knock outs over Curtis Blaydes and Cain Velasquez. Dos Santos having incredible boxing , paired with the power of Ngannou should make for some fireworks. Depending on how much the UFC values Stipe, this fight could decide who fights the winner of DC-Brock.

Blagoy Ivanov

Ivanov was able to secure a controversial decision win over Big Ben Rothwell. Ben was making his return after almost three years away from MMA. Rothwell seemed to out strike Ivanov for the majority of the fight but still , the judges gave the decision to Ivanov. Before this fight Ivanov sat at number 15 in the heavyweight division. A winner over Rothwell certainly pushes him up a few spots. Cain Velasquez made his return in February, were he came up short to Francis Ngannou. Feeling like he may have jumped back into the game to fast, it’s likely Velasquez will be looking for a winnable fight next. In his previous fights Ivanov has shown only one flaw, his grappling. It would be a great test to how good Ivanov really is,

Ben Rothwell

After losing to Junior Dos Santos in his last fight, Tai Tuivasa will be looking to get back in the win column. Although Rothwell dropped this controversial decision, his name still has decent value in the UFC. The unorthodox striking of Rothwell will be another big test for the up and comer Tuivasa.

Beneil Dariush

Dariush was able to mount a comeback submission win over Drew Dober on Saturday. He showed just how tough he is by weathering the storm, and finding a way to get the fight to the mat. Islam Makhachev has made headlines lately, as it was reported recently that he signed a bout agreement to fight Kevin Lee. That was retracted by the UFC who released rumors that they were trying to book Kevin Lee vs Gregor Gillespie. Dariush’ win on Saturday will get him very close to the top 15 again, if not the 14 or 15th spot. It would be a great fight for Makhachev to break his way into the top 15. Fans would also get to see just how good Islam is on the ground.

Yana Kunitskya

Yana just won a war of a decision over #6 ranked Marion Reneau. She is 2-1 in the UFC, with her only loss coming to Cris Cyborg. That fight was her UFC debut and for the featherweight title. Since then her wins over Reneau and Lina Länsberg have pushed her to the front of the bantamweight division. Germaine De Randamie is on a 4 fight win streak. Most known for dropping the 145 pound belt, after defeating Holly Holm for it. Her most recent win comes over former title challenger Raquel Pennington. Given her past dealing with UFC titles, the UFC might be hesitant to give her another title shot. With Ketlen Vieira likely getting the next crack at Nunez, it makes sense for De Randamie and Kunitskya to fight for a number one contender spot.
