Playing Matchmaker for the contestants of Bellator 214

Bellator 214 took place in Inglewood, California at The Forum. In the Main event Ryan Bader took on Fedor Emelianenko in the finals of the Bellator heavyweight grand prix. Ryan Bader was able to secure a first round knock out, and become the first “champ champ” in Bellator history. In the Co-main event Henry Corrales was able to knock out rising star Aaron Pico. After being wobbled early in the first, Corrales rallied back to take Pico out in the first round.

Ryan Bader- After becoming a two division champion, Bader has a tough decision to make. What weight class does he defend or does he defend both?If he continues to fight at heavyweight it is only right that he would fight the winner of Cheick Kongo vs. Vitaly Minakov. The winner of that fight in February puts them in line for the next title shot regardless who holds the title. If he decided to fight at light heavyweight, the obvious fight to make would be with Vadim Nemkov. Nemkov has recently defeated the likes of Liam McGeary, and Phil Davis. He has won the fights he needed to win to get him to a title shot.

Next fight: Ryan Bader vs. Vadim Nemkov – Light heavyweight title fight

Fedor Emelinanenko- Although he suffured a loss in last Saturdays event, he did not hang up the gloves after the fight. There was a lot of speculation that this could have been Fedor’s last fight. If he does decide to fight again he should want to stay relevant in the division. Mirko Cro Cop will be fighting Roy Nelson on the same card in February as Congo- Minakov. Fighting the winner of that fight could keep him right in arms distance of the title. If Cro Cop wins it makes for a 19 year old rematch between the two. It also makes sense for Fedor to fight other legends of the sport in his last few fights. Nelson and Cro Cop both fit that bill.

Next fight: Fedor vs. Winner of Cro Cop- Nelson

Henry Corrales- His stunning KO victory over Aaron Pico should send Corrales straight to the top of the division. If he does not get the next title fight at featherweight, he should take on another proven young star in AJ McKee. AJ is 13-0 and has notable wins over John Macapa, Jusitin Lawrence, and Daniel Crawford. Both men’s finishing ability will be at the test, as they will both come out to finish business in round one.

Next fight: Henry Corrales vs. AJ McKee

Aaron Pico- Pico should have to fight someone on his same experience/talent level. Gaston Balanos has almost the same record as Pico. He is 3-o is his last few fights, and is making his way up the featherweight ladder. Even though Pico was knocked out, he is still a great stand up fighter. Balanos is 4-1 in his Bellator Career, all 4 of his wins coming by way of knock out. This fight has war written all over it.

Next fight: Aaron Pico vs. Gaston Balanos
